Tiki Island

Thought I had posted these before....here are pics of the Bonner's place down at Tiki Island after Hurricane Ike. Pics are from Tuesday, Sept 16th.

Debris, debris everywhere....none of the debris you see is from the Bonner's place...all washed up from other houses inlcluding the sections of walls, staircases, Craftsman 15 gallon air compressor, and Igloo stainless steel refrigerator with beer still inside (no we didn't drink it).....

First pic is right when we drove up....the doors were wide open and you can see the water through the front doors...there used to be walls there....

Jet ski dock...

Boat dock...notice the piling stuck in the sling...

Rear view of the garage....notice air compressor and refrigerator...again all of this debris floated up....

Last pic is the side of the house....all debris floated up....

Bathtub Fun...

Just downloaded the camera and liked this photo...it was taken on Friday, Sept 12th.

Hurricane Ike

Here is the view out the front door of our house following Hurricane Ike which made landfall on the eastern end of Galveston Island at 2:10am on Sat, Sept 13th.

At our home in Katy, we received strong winds for a good portion of the night. I haven't heard of the exact wind speeds in our area. We lost power at 3:45am and it was restored at 8:00am so we were one of the fortunate ones. Jessie's parents (Jack and Barbara) live 2 miles south of us and power is still not restored at their house as of this post. They did not sustain any damage.

We have a fence down between us and the neighbor to the west and slight damage to the fence behind the garage. Many people in the area sustained roof damage and many fences are down.

My dad (Jim) rode out Hurricane Ike at his home in LaBelle. He had rain water get into his house in several areas resulting in damaged carpet and wood floors. Also, an awning on the second floor deck was in bad shape. Luckily, the storm surge was less than anticipated and much of the area was spared.

My mom (Pat) and sister (Kim) just returned to Nederland/Port Neches earlier today to survey the damage at their homes. Kim has a fence down and rain water that damaged carpet coming under a french door. Mom has some roof damage and missing shutters. They are staying in Mid-County for the night and coming to stay with us until power is restored.

Jessie's dad (Rickey) and stepmother (Abby) had damage to their new home in North Houston. A large tree fell on the roof causing rain water to enter the house.

Everyone is okay...that's the important thing. This storm could have been much worse....storm surge was less than anticipated and Ike was classified as a Category 2 storm upon landfall. Prior to landfall, it was estimated that the storm could reach as high as a Category 4. Though the wind speeds were less than anticipated, Ike was a HUGE storm. On the satellite images, it looked as if it covered 75% of the Gulf of Mexico while it was moving toward the Texas coast.

First Day of School

Andrew started Kindergarten on August 25th. He is going to Jessie's school this year.

Evan started the Toddler room at Primrose on the same day.

Welcome!!!

Welcome to our new blog.

We will be posting family photos and items of interest to this website so our family and friends can keep up. This will hopefully be much easier than attempting to e-mail photos.

Regards,

Chris
